One of the most popular types of needlework is cross stitch. This method is very simple to perform, but it takes a lot of time and requires perseverance. Usually, embroidery is done according to a ready-made pattern with a special stitch in the form of a cross.
Instructions
Step 1
First, choose a drawing scheme. If you are a beginner embroiderer, then a simple pattern with a minimum number of colors and stitches will suit you.
Step 2
Prepare the required material. The number of colors of "floss" threads should correspond to those required according to the scheme. Take a comfortable hoop, scissors (preferably small). For ease of embroidery, use a mesh fabric made from linen or cotton. Purchase special round-tipped embroidery needles. You can buy a ready-made set, which already has everything you need to work.
Step 3
Hoop the fabric over the hoop. The "cross" is made with two diagonal stitches and fills the area of a small square, capturing the same number of threads both in height and in width. Start embroidery from the center. Take a thread of a certain color, folded in half. Pass it through the needle and secure the thread to the fabric.
Step 4
Pull the thread to the front of the embroidery. Then pass the thread from left to right and diagonally downward (the thread with the needle will end up on the wrong side of the embroidery). Pull the thread back to the right side. The needle should come out opposite the start of the previous stitch on the side of the imaginary square. Now sew from right to left diagonally downward (thread on the wrong side). As a result, you should get a simple cross. At the same time, vertical stitches should appear on the wrong side.
Step 5
For the convenience of embroidering a long section, first sew in one direction (horizontally or vertically), and then sew in the opposite direction. Try to pass the needle and thread through the same holes, counting the same number of threads between the holes.
Step 6
Sew large areas of the same color using the Pigtail method. To do this, fill in an even strip with crisscrossing stitches.
Step 7
Iron the finished embroidery from the wrong side with an iron.
