One of the problems that embroidery enthusiasts who start work may have is the need to transfer the contours of the design from paper to fabric. A marker, carbon paper, tailor's chalk or a simple pencil will help to cope with this task.

It is necessary

  • - picture;
  • - copy paper;
  • - a simple pencil;
  • - a piece of chalk;
  • - marking marker;
  • - portable lamp;
  • - a sheet of glass.

Instructions

Step 1

To transfer the contours of the image onto a light fabric, you can use carbon paper. Spread the material over a hard, level surface, place the carbon paper on top of it with the ink layer down. If the area of the picture is larger than the size of the paper you chose for the translation of the sketch, take two sheets of paper and overlap them. Place the pattern on top of the copy paper.

Step 2

Trace the contours of the image with a ballpoint pen, pencil, or a suitable hard object, the tip of which is no more than a millimeter in diameter. To get an exact copy of the original design, try not to move the fabric and sketch.

Step 3

If the carbon paper is not suitable for the fabric you are working with, translate the image with a pencil or marker. To be able to copy the image in this way, you will need to place a light source behind the sketch.

Step 4

If you have a coffee table with a clear glass top, place a picture on it, spread a cloth over it, and place a lamp or flashlight under the table, pointing up. Instead of a table, you can use a sheet of glass supported by two chairs.

Step 5

The lines that make up the pattern, with this backlight, will be visible even through dark fabric. Trace the outline of the picture with a soft pencil, tailor's chalk, or a marker. If you have chosen a marker, before starting work, check its effect on an unnecessary piece of fabric, similar to the one onto which you are transferring the image.

Step 6

If the fabric is too thick, you can transfer the sketch with chalk. Attach the picture to the material you are working with with tailor's pins. Armed with a thick needle, punch holes along the outline of the drawing and trace the lines with chalk over the paper. Tap the picture lightly. Chalk spilling through holes in the paper will leave visible marks on the dark fabric.
