One of the most popular characters in Russian folk tales is Baba Yaga. Her costume may be needed at a children's matinee, and at a corporate party, and at an amateur theater performance. It will not be difficult to pick up a skirt, blouse, apron and headscarf, but you need to worry about the nose in advance. It can be made from different materials.
A sheet of paper, scissors and glue
The simplest nose of Baba Yaga can be made of thick paper or thin cardboard. It will turn out to be not very beautiful and will last very little, but production will take only a few minutes. In order to put on a costume once to a party, such a detail is enough. Take an album sheet, twist and glue the cone out of it. You can pre-paint the sheet in the same color with which you will make up your face. Trim the base so that your nose can fit snugly against your face. What you have done is more suitable not for Baba Yaga, but for Pinocchio or Pinocchio. It's too narrow and long. Therefore, the part must be carefully crumpled along its length so that the sharp tip disappears, and the workpiece itself loses its correct shape. For completeness, warts can be made. Roll a ball out of porous paper, saturate it with glue, stick to your nose. Glue the ends of a thin elastic band to the inside, secure them with paper squares. The nose is ready.
The paper for the main part and the warts should not differ much in color.
Foam nose
To make a foam nose, you need a mold. Draw a part of the desired shape on paper. Thin sheet foam rubber is suitable. Cut 2 pieces out of it. Fold them right over. Sew the halves along the bridge of the nose, capturing only the edges of the slices. Sew the needle forward through the part where the tip is and pull it slightly. Turn your nose out. Make warts from the same foam rubber. These are just circles sewn around the edge and assembled into balls. They are sewn to the main part with threads. Sew on the elastic. The nose can be painted with regular watercolor paint. Dissolve it in a jar, lower the part there and hold it for a while. Gouache is not suitable, since the foam rubber treated in this way is highly colored. If you want a light brown color, dip your nose in a potassium permanganate solution.
It is better to cut out the nose from thick foam rubber immediately in shape. This is best done with nail scissors, gradually removing small fragments.
Epoxy will help you out
Epoxy can almost always be purchased at a hardware store. In the package you will find 2 cans - with the actual resin and the hardener. Pour the resin into a small container. Add flour, starch or very fine sawdust. Mix all this to get a thick homogeneous mass. It should be somewhat thicker than softened plasticine. Add hardener. For some time, the mass will become more liquid, it can be sculpted from it. Blind the nose with the shape you want. You can immediately attach an elastic or tape to secure the nose. Let your creation freeze. The nose can be painted. Model paint, available from a toy store, is suitable for this purpose.
On sale now you can find epoxy plasticine. It is already ready to go, so the process will go much faster.
Classic technology
If you have time, make Baba Yaga's nose out of papier-mâché. This old technique is good for both large and small molds. The nose will serve for a very long time, it can be painted in any color, and even allergy sufferers can work with paper and paste. Blind your nose with plasticine. Place small pieces of newspaper or paper napkins on top of it. You do not need to grease them with glue for the first layer. Pay attention to the fact that the layer is solid, without gaps. Make the second layer also from newspaper, but immerse the pieces in glue. Glue a few more layers of white paper on top. Let the nose dry, then cut it open, remove the clay and glue it back together. Work over the surface with fine-grained emery paper. Prime the nose with water-based paint, paint with gouache and varnish.
