Gypsum is a unique material from which many different shapes can be cast. It is harmless and non-toxic, so even a child can work with it. The easiest thing to do is Christmas decorations or fridge magnets.

It is necessary

  • - children's molds in the form of figures of animals, the sun and cars;
  • - gypsum;
  • - glass container;
  • - water;
  • - oil or fat cream;
  • - knife or spatula;
  • - acrylic paints.

Instructions

Step 1

Take a packet of gypsum powder (or pour it out of the bag left over from the repair), pour it into a glass or earthenware container, add water there and stir thoroughly. Please note that the water should be at room temperature. Pour in as much as indicated in the instructions. Observe the proportions exactly, otherwise the product will be fragile.

Step 2

Remember that gypsum hardens very quickly, so the molds must be prepared in advance. Lubricate them inside with oil or any greasy cream so that the gypsum easily falls behind. If you are using silicone molds, then you do not need to lubricate.

Step 3

Pour the plaster of Paris into molds, smooth out quickly with a knife or spatula, and then let sit for half an hour or forty minutes. During this time, the plaster will harden, but check its hardness before removing it. To do this, you can gently tap on the plaster. If a ringing dry sound is heard, and the gypsum itself is solid, then your workpieces are ready.

Step 4

Remove your figurines carefully from the mold. Gypsum is a hard but brittle material, so place a soft cloth or folded thick magazine on the table where you are doing it.

Step 5

Now you can paint your figurines. It is best to use acrylic paints, as they fit well, dry quickly and do not smell. Apply a layer of primer to make the paint work well. You can use a regular construction primer on the ceiling and walls.

Step 6

If you plan to hang the figurines, then even before the plaster hardens, place a complex loop of fishing line there. And if you want to make a fridge magnet, you need to press the tape into the plaster while it's still soft.

Step 7

DIY figurines can be a great gift for any occasion, especially for children. Toys for children can also be made of plaster, although they are quite fragile. But if you do them with your children, then it will be a great activity for the whole family.
