The price of carnival masks rises as soon as the holidays approach. Of course, such an ornament is extremely pleasing to the eye, but the wallet is too empty. You can make a mask with your own hands, from papier-mâché, and the result will be no worse. You will kill two birds with one stone - and you will save money, and show your imagination.

Sculptural plasticine, newspapers, PVA glue, acrylic paint, tape, scissors, brushes
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the base. You can take an old cheap plastic mask left over from children's matinees. If it is not there, your face will become a shape - not very comfortable, but then the mask will sit like a glove. Cover the shape with sculpted plasticine. Pay special attention to the area of the nose and cheekbones, sculpt them as carefully as possible. Peel off the finished base carefully.
Step 2
Tear the newspapers into 2 cm wide pieces. Use longer strips for the first layer and smaller strips for the rest, to better match the shape. Lightly soak the paper for the first layer with water and apply to the base.
Step 3
Lubricate the first layer with PVA glue and lay out the second. The paper can be soaked in advance with water or diluted PVA. Smooth the paper gently (but not apply too much pressure) to avoid wrinkling or air bubbles. Let the layers dry for 20 minutes.
Step 4
Apply the next layers on PVA glue and make 15-20 minute pauses every 2 layers. The optimal thickness of papier-mâché for a mask is 6-8 layers.
Step 5
Make the last layer of thin white paper or napkins (you do not need to soak them). Leave the mask to dry at room temperature for 2 days.
Step 6
Remove the finished mask from the plasticine mold and trim the edges with scissors. Make holes around the edges for the tapes and secure them.
Step 7
Cover the mask with acrylic paint. You can use regular gouache, but this paint is short-lived, it will fade and blur from accidental exposure to moisture.
The base color is easier to spray on, and when dry, use a thin brush to paint patterns in a style that suits your outfit and style. Decorate the mask with feathers, lace, sequins.
