At home, you can make a book that is outwardly indistinguishable from the one published in the printing house. You can assemble a folio in any format and create a unique cover design. When creating such a book, it is important to very accurately measure at every stage of the work, because even minor errors will affect the result.

It is necessary

  • - glue;
  • - threads;
  • - binding cardboard;
  • - colored paper;
  • - the cloth.

Instructions

Step 1

Fold the sheets of the book in the correct order, straighten the stack. Clamp it with clamps. Divide the top sheet into equal segments along the spine (for the A5 format, the length of the segment is 4 cm). At the level of these marks, saw through the spine of the entire block. The depth of each slot is 5 mm. Using a brush, brush the spine with glue.

Step 2

While the glue is still wet, bind the paper with thread. Place the end of the thread in the first notch, pass it along the untrimmed part at the back, place it in the next cut and braid the uncut part in the front. Walk this way to the end of the spine and make 4 more such rows. Cut the thread, leaving a tail 3 cm long. Fill the cuts on the spine with glue.

Step 3

Cut a strip of cotton that is 5 mm shorter than the spine and 4 cm wider than the spine. Stick the strip on the block, glueing only the part that will be in contact with the spine with glue. Leave the edges of the fabric outside of it unsticked. Leave the block to dry for 24 hours.

Step 4

Cut out endpapers from thick colored paper - rectangles twice as long as the page of a book. Fold the endpaper in half and place it on the dry block. Glue the edge of the fabric strip on top of the endpaper. Also secure the second endpaper.

Step 5

Prepare the cover pieces. Cut a strip out of the cardboard that will run along the spine. It should exceed its dimensions by 5 mm in width and 1 cm in length. Draw parallel lines along the part, evenly spaced apart. Traverse these lines with a pen. Thanks to these grooves, the cover will bend evenly, without creases. For the front and back cover, cut in a rectangle. Its width should be equal to the width of the page, and its length should be 1 cm more than the height of the page.

Step 6

Assemble the cover onto a piece of paper or cloth of a suitable color. Cut out a rectangle about 10 cm wider and longer than the spread of the book. Spread out the cover pieces on the wrong side of the paper or fabric. Place the spine in the center. On the sides of it there are two rectangular parts. The distance from the edge of the spine to the cover should be 5 mm. Glue all pieces to the base. Fold the edges of the paper or fabric to the inside and fix in the same way. Place the block in the cover, align and secure with endpapers.
