A round table will become a worthy decoration of a room if you make an original tablecloth for it. The stores sell a variety of tablecloths, but in the overwhelming majority of cases, they are designed for rectangular tables. Therefore, it is better to sew it. Among other things, you can make it to match the sofa bedspread, pillows, curtains and other draperies.

It is necessary

  • - thick cotton or silk fabric;
  • - centimeter;
  • - tailor's line;
  • - tailor's square;
  • - soap or chalk;
  • - fringe;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - scissors;
  • - bobbin threads;
  • - a needle.

Instructions

Step 1

A round tablecloth can be either round or square. Either way, cut out a square first. Measure the diameter of the table. Add to this value twice the length of the part that will hang down. This is the side of the square you need.

Step 2

Calculate the amount of fabric. It is very good if its width is greater than the diameter of the table. Then you can take one length or a little more, depending on the desired size of the edges. If the diameter of the table is greater than the width of the fabric, buy two lengths. You may need three times more fabric. This is necessary when the diameter is greater than one and a half width.

Step 3

If you managed to find a fabric of a very large width (for example, a curtain fabric), the square can be cut out immediately. Just measure the length of the side along the hem. From the end points, use a tailor's square to draw the perpendiculars the same length as the side. Connect the end points. But fabric of this width does not come across so often. Therefore, cut out a square with a side equal to the diameter of the table. Then draw and cut 2 strips, the length of which is equal to the side of the square, and increase the other 2 on both sides by the length of the hanging part. Longer stripes are best cut along the lobe. Don't forget about allowances.

Step 4

Baste and stitch seams, and iron out seams. Since the tablecloth is not subjected to such mechanical stress as, for example, a duvet cover, it is not necessary to use a linen seam. For a square tablecloth, overlock or zigzag the seams and add fringe.

Step 5

For a round tablecloth, make a pattern. Draw and glue a square, exactly the same as the fabric. Draw both diagonals and find the middle. Tie your pencil onto a sturdy string. Attach the other end of the thread to the center of the square with a pin or button. The length of the thread in the taut position should be equal to half the side of the square. Draw and cut out a circle.

Step 6

Transfer the circle to the fabric on the wrong side of the fabric. Cut out the workpiece. Hem the hem by folding it twice to the wrong side. If desired, you can sew a fringe or braid around the edge.
