Homemade interior decorations are always a win-win option if you want to add a couple of new refreshing notes to the familiar look of your home. A decorative element in the shape of a ball, covered with delicate roses, is perfect for decorating a living room or bedroom, and as an unusual Christmas tree decoration. To make such a ball, you need a spherical base on which the roses are attached. You can buy a ready-made foam ball from a specialty store, or you can make one yourself.
It is necessary
- - ready-made ball-base / ball or spherical packaging from cookies or sweets / plasticine;
- - for papier-mâché: unnecessary newspapers, paste, paintbrush, petroleum jelly, stationery knife;
- - corrugated (crepe) paper;
- - PVA glue or glue gun;
- - thick thread or tape for hanging.
Instructions
Step 1
If you did not find a ready-made foam ball shape that you could take for the base of a ball of roses, then make it yourself. Find a plastic ball of the right size or sculpt it with plasticine - this will be the basis for the papier-mâché ball.
Step 2
Tear old newspapers into small pieces and soak them in a container of water and a little PVA glue. Apply the first layer of paper evenly to the base ball and coat it with PVA glue (pre-grease the plasticine ball with a thick layer of Vaseline). After the first layer has dried, apply the second and re-spread the paper with glue. Thus, continue to glue the ball with several (7-8) layers of newsprint.
Step 3
Let the paper dry well and cut the papier-mâché ball in half. Remove them from the mold. In one of the halves, make a small hole and insert a loop of thick thread or ribbon, and then glue both halves into a single even ball.
Step 4
So, you have a base ball, now take care of the roses. To make them, cut a roll of crepe paper into narrow rolls 5 cm wide. Cut (or simply tear) the resulting long ribbons into equal strips 60 cm long.
Step 5
Take one tape and wrinkle it in your hand to make the paper a little softer and more like a cloth. Then stretch and straighten it out.
Step 6
Begin to roll the tape in a special way into a roll. First, fold a piece of 5 cm rather tightly, and then more loosely wrap the crepe tape around this core, turning the top edge of the tape outward and forming beautiful curls. Make 4 or 5 curls, securing them every two with PVA glue or a glue gun. At the end, also glue the tip of the tape, securing the folded flower well.
Step 7
Depending on the size of the base ball, make the required number of such roses. You can use paper of several harmonious colors, as well as fold two layers of ribbons in contrasting colors into one flower.
Step 8
At the finished roses, carefully trim the glued ends at the bottom and evenly, not very tightly, glue the paper flowers onto the base ball using a glue gun. To prevent the ball from rolling on the table while gluing the roses, make a stand for it from a roll of tape.
Step 9
When the entire surface of the ball is pasted over with roses, let the product dry, and then decorate your interior with a ball of roses.
