It is also advisable to change the "main suspect" several times throughout the story - a person or a phenomenon that creates all the troubles. If from the very beginning it is clear what the essence of the problem is, reading such a book will not be interesting.

Step 1
Develop a plot. If your knowledge of the topic that you want to base the book on is not enough, you should turn to encyclopedias and reference books, published in abundance both in Russia and abroad. For example, it is impossible to keep in mind all the demons that once existed or other actors of all kinds of myths and legends. And so you will have a hero, the reality of whose existence is "practically proven" - at least, confirmed by reliable sources.

Plan your story. Remember that you must have a tie, a body, and a denouement. Whichever style of presentation of a novel or story you choose is the law by which books are written. You can start with a real-time problem, then - transfer the action into the deep past, and end again in real time. Another path that the author of a horror book can take is the so-called reverse storytelling. Describe the problem first, while the main part will be devoted to the reasons for its occurrence.
Step 3
Come up with the main and secondary characters. As a rule, there should be much more “evil” than “good”. The task pursued by this inequality is to show that everything is hopeless, but by chance the main character still copes, but next time this may not happen. Many of the world's bestsellers written in the genre under discussion follow this pattern.
Step 4
Describe the locations where the action unfolds and takes place. You can choose one of two paths: either they are ominous and getting there itself does not bode well for the heroes, or, on the contrary, the most mundane, i.e. close to reality. The last move is a surefire way to make readers associate with the main character. Something like "you see, all this can happen to you." Add some gentle feelings, of course. The plot in which everyone dies, except for lovers, is very often exploited in literature.
