Many have probably heard about the emergence of the so-called "eights" on bicycle wheels. But only especially experienced cyclists know how to get rid of the figure eight easily and painlessly. For everyone else, this is an excuse for a while to say goodbye to their two-wheeled friend, giving it to be repaired. Although it is quite simple to eliminate this type of malfunction.
It is necessary
- - key for tightening the spokes;
- - marker.
Instructions
Step 1
Correct the figure eight on the wheel by alternately tightening the spokes. To do this, place your bike on the ground or floor and slowly spin the wheel. At the same time, carefully look in which direction when turning it leads. According to your observations, pull the knitting needles either to the left or to the right. For repairs, use a special spoke tightening wrench, which either comes with the bike in the kit, or is sold in special stores.
Step 2
Another repair scheme looks similar. Also put the bike down and spin the wheel slowly. Move the rim to the place where it clings to the brake pads, slowly and carefully, with the bent side. Mark this position with a marker. Then look at the bike model. In some, if the damage is on the right side, the knitting needles do not need to be pulled, but rather relaxed, and on the left just pull. In other models, the opposite is true. At the same time, do not forget to count the number of revolutions that you make when tightening and loosening the spokes. This will be the key to uniform straightening. And it is best to do it in parts - first tighten / loosen a little, then look. Then continue if necessary.
Step 3
Consider some of the nuances that make it difficult to repair a bicycle, according to the basic principles. So, for example, some manufacturers can rivet the nipples on the spokes so that they do not unwind when driving. However, they often fold over part of the spoke. And in this case, twisting (pulling) the spoke can only lead to additional problems, for example, thread stripping. Another complication can be caused by the material from which the rim is made. If it is duralumin, straightening the figure eight on it is a rather difficult task. First, you have to loosen almost all the needles and only then eliminate the defect. And only then center the wheel by pulling the spokes back.
Step 4
If, despite your best efforts, the figure eight does not disappear, but rather moves, your best bet is to take your bike to a workshop. The cost of the service for eliminating such a malfunction ranges from 200-300 rubles. But you are guaranteed to return a bike with smooth wheels without signs of even slight deformation.
