For thousands of years, water has been a source of inspiration for people. Even a small water feature will revitalize and refresh your garden. It doesn't matter what kind of garden you have - large or small, classic or neglected - water will be a welcome guest on any site. A small waterfall will fill your garden with the play of glare and the murmur of jets. It is not difficult to create it, but it will delight you for many, many years.

Step 1
Seat selection
Place the waterfall away from trees to prevent falling leaves. Leaves in the water can interfere with the pump's normal operation. Trees with a powerful root system are capable of lifting and even piercing the film that lines the bottom of the reservoir with their roots. You should not arrange a waterfall close to your home, as the constant noise of falling water can be inconvenient.
Step 2
Creation of the waterfall channel.
It is customary to create a waterfall simultaneously with a small reservoir. It serves as a reservoir for the water circulating in the closed loop of the waterfall. Dig a pit, remove the protruding stones and roots from the inside. Remove sod about 30 cm wide around the perimeter of the pond. Use the excavated soil to create a slide. This is the basis for the future waterfall. Make notched steps on the slope. Don't get carried away with creating multi-stage cascades. To create the maximum effect, one or two ledges are enough, from which water will fall. Try to avoid sharp turns along the course of the water flow. Compact the soil.
Step 3
Creation of a pipeline.
Run the plastic pipe from the foundation pit to the top of the slide. Disguise it, but it must be accessible for maintenance.
Step 4
Laying the film.
Cover the entire area of the pit and waterfall with a non-woven covering material. Create a sand cushion at least 2 cm thick. The sand should cover the bottom of the pond and the ledges of the waterfall. Stretch the film over the entire pond and waterfall bed. Let the film sink under its own weight. Build a waterfall on a warm day, then the film will become softer and easily take any shape. Check the level for the horizontal position of the edges of each tab. To level the edge of the pit, place the level on a long board.
Step 5
System check.
Install the pump, connect it to the hose and fill the pit with water. Leave the water for a while to flatten the film. Then turn on the pump and run the water down the ledges. Make sure the water flows where it needs to be. If water spills out of the channel, lift the film and add soil to the desired location. Leave the water in the pond and in the indentations of the steps overnight. In the morning, check how the film has laid down, and cut off the excess along the waterfall bed and around the perimeter of the reservoir.
Step 6
Decoration of the waterfall with stones.
Lay out the edges of the ledges with large flat stones. Use long and narrow boulders to fill in the distance between the ledges of the waterfall. Pay special attention to the sides. At the top of the slide, fold a few stones into a pyramid to mask the exit of the pipe.
Along the perimeter of the reservoir, lay stones loosely, pressing down and masking the edges of the film with them. Install very large stones that cannot be used in the design of the waterfall and the shore of the reservoir on the slope of the slide. This will give the whole design more naturalness. Once you've arranged the stones in the correct order, secure them in place with mortar.
Step 7
Decorating
Fill the gaps between the rocks along the waterfall with fertile soil and plant the plants. Use alpine plants for planting, such as aubrieta, rock beetroot, thyme, herbal carnation.
Low conifers planted on a hill will strengthen the slopes and give the effect of a natural object.
