Polycotton is a fabric made partly of cotton and partly of polyester, which imparts beneficial properties to cotton fibers. The ratio of these two materials can be different, which affects the quality of the fabric. It is used for the production of bed linen, mattresses, pillows and the like.
Polycotton
Polycotton is a modern fabric created on the basis of regular cotton with the addition of polyester, an artificial material that has a number of advantages over natural fibers. Polycotton was invented in the 21st century, went on sale as a material for home textiles relatively recently, but has already gained popularity among housewives and lovers of practical, comfortable and economical fabrics.
The ratio of polyester and cotton in the material can be different, the best is the fabric with a high cotton content, up to 65%. In some cases, polycotton contains only 15% cotton, it is almost completely artificial fabric, in which the properties of cotton fibers are almost invisible.
Polycotton properties
Polyester gives the fabric several advantages that pure cotton material cannot boast. Polycotton does not sit down and hardly wrinkles. The fibers, even under the influence of constant washings, remain in place, as a result of which the structure of the fabric remains for a long time. To wash the fabric, you do not need a large amount of powder, and thanks to the artificial fibers, the hygienic properties of the bed linen are increased.
Dyes on polycotton sticks much better than on cotton, which is why such fabric looks newer and more attractive even after several years of use.
This fabric is pleasant to the touch, resembles coarse calico, and the more cotton, the more comfortable the polycotton is considered. Synthetics in its composition do not allow moisture to pass through, and the more polyester in the fabric, the worse it is suitable for bed linen - it is hot and unpleasant to sleep under artificial material.
Polycotton is usually painted in bright colors, covered with intricate designs and intricate patterns. As bedding, this fabric looks attractive and interesting, but it can be used for other purposes: someone sews curtains from it, someone makes bedspreads or decorative pillowcases.
There are polycotton upholstered mattresses on sale.
Polycotton is thin, but practical, and many housewives appreciate it for its affordable price compared to chintz, calico, satin and other types of fabric for home textiles. But this material also has its drawbacks. First, after a few years of use, the fabric starts to roll. Secondly, due to the content of artificial fibers, it is necessary to accurately follow the washing instructions, otherwise the polycotton will quickly become unusable. It must not be washed at temperatures above 40 ° C, but it must be ironed very carefully, on a gentle mode. In addition, the polycotton is electrified.
