Biography

Jan was born into a simple family in the south of the town of Nile in Flanders, the former medieval county of the Duchy of Burgundy, on February 14, 1946. As a child, he was attracted by beautiful pictures, the boy looked at them with great interest, he himself drew on sand or paper. At the age of seven, he was sent to school, but the hobby of the parent's son was always approved. He received his secondary education at a local educational institution, after which he entered the Academy of Arts.

After graduating from the academy, he decided to try his hand at theatrical environment and went to study at the studio of Hermann Terlink in Antwerp. There he learned acting, how to behave on stage. Years later, becoming a famous and sought-after artist, he worked as a teacher and at the same time led this theater school (1992-1997).

Career

The first steps to popularity began with the debut in the film of the Dutch director Rademakes "Peace", where Jan played the son of a farmer. Received positive reviews from critics, was noted as a colorful actor with a great future. Simultaneously with filming, he took part in theatrical performances. The most memorable and lasting was the role in the play "Mystery-Buff", which was staged according to Dario Fo's monologues by the "New International Stage" group. Later, Decler traveled half the world, declaring monologues by the popular Italian playwright and stage theorist Fo.

1976 brought the young actor to participate in the series "Sil de Strandjutter", it was his first appearance on television. He learned new things for himself, improved his skills and made a contribution to the cinema of those years.

1993 was marked for him by two epochal events - participation in the children's program "Hello, Sintaklaas" on the KETNET channel and the main role in the film "Dance".

Trying on the role of "St. Nicholas" (Santa Claus), Decler did not even suspect that for many years he will remain a favorite of children and adults. Throughout the years, he took part with great pleasure in annual competitions and performances in honor of the saint, delighted the children. With his second wife, theater and film actress Caroline van Gastel, he lived for many years, was very happy. In this union, a beautiful son, Enne, was born, who later became more successful and popular than his father, while simultaneously studying music. But the couple broke up at the end of 2005 when Caroline found out about Flor's illegitimate child and her husband's relationship with actress Brit Allen. However, they still communicate and meet periodically on set.
