The attic (or coffee) toy is so named because it looks like an old, rather shabby and primitive-looking doll that has been gathering dust in the attic for a long time, which gives it away as a favorite childhood toy, the keeper of children's secrets. It is quite easy to make it yourself, materials for making such a toy can be found in any home, the skills of even a novice needlewoman are quite enough. The main thing is imagination and creativity.

It is necessary

  • To make a toy you will need:
  • - natural fabric, preferably dense and with a large weave of threads;
  • - scissors, threads and a needle;
  • - soft filler for toys.
  • To artificially “age” the toy and give it a home morning aroma, you will need:
  • - 2 tsp instant coffee;
  • - 2 tsp cocoa;
  • - 2 tsp cinnamon powder;
  • - 2 tsp vanilla;
  • - 2 tsp PVA glue.
  • For decorating the finished doll: paints, buttons and beads, ribbons, etc.

Instructions

Step 1

After thinking about what your first attic doll will be, draw a pattern. There is no point in inventing anything here - the more primitive the toy is, the better. There can be only two details in the pattern, the back and the "facade", which outline only the outline of the future man or animal. The main thing in the toy is the design, therefore it is not necessary to cut out the limbs, torso and head separately, an exception can be made only for small details - tails and ears. Do not try to make a complex, vintage doll at once, for the first experience, the simplest version is enough, which will be the most fun and interesting.

Step 2

Having cut out, carefully sew the details. This can be done either on a sewing machine or by hand, with a back stitch. For the greatest reliability, the attic doll should be deliberately careless, even shabby, but precisely - deliberately. She should not betray the negligence of the hands that made her. After sewing the parts of the toy, turn it out to the front side, fill it tightly with filler, sew up the hole with a blind seam and connect the parts of the toy with the same seam. This is where the most laborious part of the work ends and creativity begins.

Step 3

Now the faceless and still awkward workpiece should be artificially "aged", besides, it should be given the aroma of a family breakfast - coffee, cocoa and spices will come in handy for this. Pour a couple of teaspoons of instant coffee, cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon into a container, pour a cup of hot water and stir. The resulting mixture should be cooled and covered with it throughout the toy. This is best done with a wide, stiff glue brush. Take special care at the seams. The painted toy must be completely dried, and then give it its final shape and rigidity. To do this, add a little water to the same flavoring agent, two tablespoons of PVA glue, and start painting the toy with a second layer. After drying, it is ready for the most important and most interesting part of the job.

Step 4

Fantasy will help to turn a fragrant blank into a favorite toy, because there is no single rule here. It can be painted by hand with paints, decorated with decoupage, applique, dress up - there are no less types of attic toys than the craftswomen who create them. The main thing is not to overdo it with decorative elements. The main charm of an attic toy is precisely in its simplicity, therefore it is advisable to choose some one design method. Too bright, catchy details such as rhinestones, sequins, lace, etc. - not for an attic toy.
