The first thing to pay attention to is knowledge of the area. The compiler must himself be well aware of the place he intends to write about. Therefore, think ahead about what your story will go about. If you are a good connoisseur of your native land, city or village, then why not start describing them? By the way, your choice will also be influenced by how visited and popular the place is (the sales of the directory directly depend on this).
Step 2
To make the structure of your guide as simple and understandable as possible for the reader, read other guides and see how they work. Think about how you can diversify the content of the book. If you are going to publish a printed edition, take care of the illustrations. If you have the appropriate technique and skills, you can create them yourself. Otherwise, you need to hire a photographer.
Step 3
Before compiling a guide, brush up on your knowledge: read the relevant literature, visit the place you want to tell others about again. This is necessary so that the published guide contains only relevant information, and not the one that the author himself received, perhaps several years ago.
Step 4
If you are describing a city or region, make up the most interesting tourist routes for tourists, tell about the available sights of the area. Supplement them with information about the length of the journey and how you can get to this or that place on the route. Do not forget to indicate in the guidebook the climatic conditions in each of the seasons.
