To play backgammon with a resident of another country, you do not need to make tedious trips. Now it is enough to have a computer at home with unlimited Internet access.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the FIBS (First Internet Backgammon Server) site.
Step 2
Follow the link Getting started. On the loaded page, find the registration tool link. Click on it. A new tab will open and a Java applet will load, allowing you to register with the server. If it doesn't work or doesn't load at all, install the Java plugin on your machine or update it to the latest version.
Step 3
After registering, return to the main page of the site. Now find the name of the operating system you are using under the Connecting heading and click on it. If you are using a different OS, follow the Others link. A page with a list of software products suitable for interacting with the server will be loaded.
Step 4
Find one of the programs in the list that is suitable for your operating system, and at the same time is free. Download and install it on your computer, PDA or cell phone. Any of these devices must be connected to the Internet at an unlimited rate. If the connection is made through a mobile operator, the device must have a correctly configured access point (APN) - its name must begin with the word internet, not wap.
Step 5
Run the program. Enter the login and password you received during registration. Now you can select the person who is ready to play with you at the moment and start playing. Some programs also provide a spectator mode. It allows you to monitor an ongoing party in real time without interfering with it. This function is useful for those who have not yet learned how to play backgammon well.
Step 6
You can use the server services without a special program if your computer or phone has a Telnet client. To do this, connect to the fibs.com server on port 4321. Please note that in this case you need to have a real backgammon set and move the chips manually according to the information displayed on the screen. And to find out the commands used in the text interface, go to the commands link on the page with the list of programs.
