As a rule, such contests invite participants to write a work on a given topic, and the prize for the winner is usually a publication in a collection. Such contests are a great way to make yourself known, to meet other authors and publishers, and they also give you a chance to get your hands on it. Unfortunately, in projects of this kind, as a rule, an open discussion of the works submitted to the competition is supposed, and the criticism can be very harsh. On the other hand, such an experience will allow you to be more relaxed about negative reviews in the future.
