Tradition, according to the dictionary definition, is customary to call a work of oral folk art, which has not taken shape in a clearly defined genre like a fairy tale or an epic. The people also have another name for this type of works - "past" or "true". Once upon a time, such stories served mainly in order to convey to descendants knowledge about events, phenomena, historical figures. Over time, the initial information changed, sometimes beyond recognition.

Instructions
Step 1
Choose the type of legend that you will compose. They are mythical, naturalistic, historical (a separate part of which are geographical). The mythical legends include stories about the origin of the world, Earth, heaven, man, gods, spirits, etc. Naturalistic legends were created about the origin of objects of flora and fauna, fantastic birds and animals. The third type includes narratives about historical events, famous personalities, the origin of the names of cities, mountains and other geographical objects.
Step 2
Decide what or who you would like to tell in the tradition. You can, for example, write your own history of the creation of the world. Think about how and from what it could have come. Try not to repeat existing myths, write something fundamentally new. You can invent a new creator, decide why he could have come up with the idea of creating a new world, what "materials" he had at hand.
Step 3
If you don't want to create your own world, come up with a legend about the most beautiful plant, beloved animal or historical personality, one way or another connected with the history of your places. Think about where the plant might have come from. For example, lily of the valley flowers could appear from the tears of a beautiful girl, and pomegranate seeds - from drops of the blood of a brave knight. In this case, it is necessary to substantiate how the grains got into the hard shell, and the flowers ended up on a long curved stem.
Step 4
When composing a legend about a real person, try to study his biography as much as possible. Your story should have elements of a fairy tale, but the bulk of the narrative is based on real events. For example, during the war, a partisan detachment was surrounded. The partisans walked for a long time through the forests, trying to break through to their own. Your hero managed to outwit enemies or showed miracles of courage, destroying an entire tank brigade alone, in much the same way as the heroes of medieval historical legends used to deal with enemies. There may be many more enemies than there were in reality, but they actually existed.
Step 5
Historical legends are sometimes "inhabited" by various supernatural characters. You can come up with such heroes, but you need to do it carefully. Tradition is not a fairy tale, people must believe it, and the perception of a modern listener can be very different from the perception of an ancient Greek or a resident of Western Europe in the early Middle Ages. Come up with characters that may not have actually been next to your main character, but they could be. Make a list of possible heroes.
Step 6
Write an outline for the future story. It can be very short, it includes only the main events and the heroes who participate in them. It is needed in order not to forget anything, to justify the need for the appearance of each character and to determine the sequence of events.
Step 7
Choose a presentation style. Stylization in this case is not necessary, the story can be told in the same language that you usually speak. You can start a legend in the same way as a fairy tale, with the fact that one person once lived in your area or a wonderful flower grows in the surrounding forests and that an interesting story is connected with it. Tell us about the events that you have already outlined in the plan.
