Musical is a genre of musical and theatrical art that combines musical numbers (arias and songs), dances and speech. Some people mistake the musical for a kind of operetta. Like any theatrical work, it begins with a literary basis - a libretto or a script.
Instructions
Step 1
The composer is not always the author of poems for songs and the script as a whole. More often a separate specialist is invited for this. If you combine both roles, then master the basics of this profession. Outline the idea of / u200b / u200bthe work. List the main characters, describe their characters. There is no need to describe the appearance (in general, screenwriting does not deal with the description of the hero's appearance), but it is possible to imagine the timbre in advance (soprano or contralto, bass or tenor).
Step 2
Write an event plan. Outline the main actions during the exposition, formulate the first turning point, think over the setting, development, culmination, denouement. Don't write any replies yet.
Step 3
Create a multi-column table. Their names: action, duration, character name, replica. Write actions and events in the first column, fill in the rest. It is convenient to draw up such a table (or rather, already a libretto in the form of a table) in a computer text editor. You can make corrections later without affecting the appearance of the script.
Step 4
Poetic fragments (texts of future songs) formulate eight lines in one solo, three lines in a song; the chorus can be four to eight lines long. Larger volume is poorly perceived.
Step 5
Use humor. The remarks and actions of the heroes should attract the attention of the audience, and the most convenient and accessible way is jokes and laughter. Moreover, these can be not only puns, but also absurd actions.
Step 6
Music is written on the basis of the libretto. Compose a theme for each character. Use it in songs he performs solo or in duets, but each time modify it a little, in accordance with the development of the character himself and the course of the action. The songs are built according to the scheme of a small theater: exposition devoid of heat, initiation and development, culmination, then decline and finale. Borrow techniques from recognized masters of musical theater: for example, Webber in I. Kh. - Superstar”used a small set of themes, but made up for it with the number of treatments and the addition of stage effects. Glinka in "Ruslan and Lyudmila" gave each character, in addition to the leitmotif, a certain instrument.
Step 7
Write down the instrumental plays in the mise-en-scènes, as well as at the beginning and at the end of the performance. Use material that is already written. For introductions, go classic. Through the presentation and development, briefly outline the plot: it was good, it became bad, then it was very bad, then the hero coped and it became better than it was. The scheme is primitive, but effective.
