The main element of the New Year's decor is a live or artificial spruce, shimmering with lights of garlands. From the Middle Ages in Europe and from the pre-revolutionary period in Russia there has been a tradition of decorating a festive tree with toys, sweets, tinsel and confetti.

Instructions
Step 1
Choose the decor style for your Christmas tree. It can be retro (with Soviet toys), European (with toys of the same color), eclectic (mixing all styles), or ultra-modern (for example, with computer parts as pendants).
Step 2
Start decorating the spruce tree from above in a spiral. Hang the toys so that the tree does not tilt to one side of the weight. Try to keep the jewelry out of each other. If there are animals and small children in the house, leave the lower branches of the tree without decor, or pick up shatterproof toys (plastic or cardboard). Place a star, spire crown or angel on top.
Step 3
If the tree is large, choose large decorations so they don't get lost in the branches. In the case when there are few toys, and visually the tree looks "naked", fill the space between the branches with tinsel, rain, beads or serpentine. On the contrary, if the spruce is small, do not overload it with details: a few symmetrically hung figures will suffice.
Step 4
Use bows instead of balls if you want originality and closeness to European standards for Christmas tree decor. Such jewelry can be bought or made by yourself from ribbons, braid, foil. Classic colors for bows are red, gold and silver. Also, instead of the usual toys, you can hang bells on the branches, which are sold in sets for decoration, or forest cones, covered with silver (gold) paint.
Step 5
Bake a variety of gingerbread cookies and decorate the tree with them - this is the latest fashion in Europe. To do this, make a hole in the figured dough cut out with a match, and after the cookies are ready, pass a thin satin ribbon through the hole and tie it around the branch. “Edible” spruce can also be decorated with sweets in bright wrappers or chocolate figurines.
Step 6
Decide what will be on your tree as an additional decor: beads, garland, rain or tinsel. It is better to choose one thing so that the toys do not get lost under the top layer of jewelry. Mask the cross with cotton wool imitating snow, or wrap it several times with lush tinsel. A basket of hazelnuts or a bowl of chocolates placed next to the tree will be an excellent addition.
