Archery is an interesting and fun sport. To make a bow with your own hands, you will need a piece of wood, string for the string, and some veneer. And how to assemble a solid bow from these materials, having spent just a couple of hours on work, you will learn from this article.

It is necessary

  • A piece of wood according to the size of the future onion (ash, maple, yew or white acacia);
  • Twisted linen (for shooting at close targets) or lavsan (for shooting at long distances) string for the bowstring;
  • A little veneer (thickness 0.5 mm);
  • Hammer and nails;
  • Rasp.

Instructions

Step 1

We take a piece of wood and cut out an arc from it, which will act as the frame of the bow. Do not forget about the fact that you need to cut out a comfortable handle for holding the bow in the middle of the arc. The handle and the arc are cut out with a rasp. On the back of the bow, glue one or two pieces of veneer to its ends. Round off the ends and make a small groove at both ends of the bow for the string.

Step 2

Now you need to attach the bowstring. Cut off the desired length of thread. The approximate length of the string for the bowstring should be the length of the bow minus 4-5 cm. Drive two nails into the wooden block from both ends. We fix the free end of the bowstring on one of the nails of the resulting device and begin to wind it in a circle. Five turns will be enough for us. To make the string last longer, we wind it evenly and without sagging.

Step 3

We cut the thread and tie the free ends of our future bowstring. Then we divide the thread into two strands. We wrap the middle of each of the strands at a distance of about 8-10 cm with a dense nylon thread. Then we wrap the ends of the bowstring without removing it from the device. We will have two loops that will attach the string to the bow. We check the length of the bowstring by comparing it with the length of the bow. If all the previous operations were performed correctly, then the string should ideally fit the bow in size. If the bowstring does not fit, simply adjust its length by decreasing or increasing the loops.

Step 4

We make finishing. We give the necessary shape to the bow handle, on the left to it we attach a protrusion for the direction of the arrow, made of foam or a piece of wood (3x10 mm). It is better to make the ledge semicircular, with a slight slope in our direction. This will prevent the arrow from slipping. On this, the process of making the bow can be considered complete.
