Ice skating is one of the favorite winter activities for children and adults. Going to the skating rink literally delights the kids. Choosing skates for a boy can be quite difficult, because they should be not only comfortable, but also suitable in all respects, especially if the child goes to hockey. The right skates will help your son avoid injury.
Instructions
Step 1
Some parents are tempted to buy skates for their child of a much larger size, with a margin. But skates are not boots or felt boots, you don't need to buy them several sizes larger. Otherwise, the child will fall for the first year, instead of learning to skate properly. Skates that are not the right size can cause injury.
Step 2
To make progress in ice skating, you need to choose children's skates that are half the size of your current size. It is recommended to buy ice hockey skates one size larger than regular shoes. They should be tried on on warm socks, in which your boy will ride (socks should not be overly thick).
Step 3
Put on an unlaced boot and lean on the heel, push it towards the heel. At the same time, the leg should sit tightly and rest against the back of the boot. Lace the boot looser at the toe, slightly tighter in the instep area, and looser again in the area of the last two hooks. Put the child on his feet, while the skates should be level. In properly fitted skates, the heel should be firmly fixed and the legs should not be turned outward.
Step 4
If the legs at the ankle joint sink inward, it means that the boot is very large and does not hold the foot well (there may also be a problem with the installation of the blades, or simply the ligaments and muscles on the boy's legs have not yet strengthened). After purchasing your skates, inspect the blades. Often they are sharpened during manufacture, but sometimes this is not enough. There should be a groove along the length of the blade, creating two clear edges. If there is no groove, then the blade of the skate can fall to the side, as a result, it will be difficult to make a correct push. Sharpening skates consists not only in sharpening the sides of the blade correctly, but also in restoring the groove.
